Hayden becomes a Jockey again

The latest twist in the Matt Hayden saga has seen the striker return to Newmarket Town.

It has been a busy few days for the forward, who left Lakenheath last week to sign for Ely City.

However, after making his debut for the Robins at the weekend, the Stowmarket-based frontman decided that the travelling involved meant he could not commit to the club.

Ely have already released Hayden's registration, which has freed him up to agree to rejoin former club Newmarket.

Hayden was last with the Jockeys in 2016/17, when he suffered a broken ankle during a FA Cup tie away at Halstead Town.

Speaking about the last few days, he said: "Once I have got my kids sorted, it takes me around an hour-and-a-half to get to Ely and that is too much.

"I did not realise quite how long it was going to take me.

"To be fair to Brady (Stone, manager) he has been great about it.

"And I am buzzing to be back at Newmarket – I still know a lot of people at the club.

"I just want to get my head down now and play my football."

Hayden is expected to feature in tomorrow's home Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup tie against lower-league Brampton (7.45pm).
