Whitehall breaks course record
George Whitehall has broken the course record at the Links Golf Club with a six-under- par 66, breaking the old record by one shot.
The 15-year-old, who attends Bottisham Village College and has a scholarship with Ipswich Town Football Club, made four birdies on the front nine to go out in 33 shots.
Further birdies at 10, 13 and 15 saw him reach seven under par but a closing bogey on the last hole with a missed eight-foot putt saw him complete the record round of 66.
Whitehall, who only turned 15 two days before the round, now plays off a 2 handicap and said of his achievement: “I was not even thinking about how many under par I was or getting my handicap cut, I just kept trying to make birdies.”
* Meanwhile, fellow Links member Teddy Hall continued his recent positive form at Millbrook Golf Club late last month when he triumphed in the Keith Bass Trophy.
Held over a total of 27 holes, the Bottisham Village College student went round in +2.
His performance also helped the Suffolk squad to finish in third position.
The teenager has been in winning form of late, having previously come out on top at the Gog Magog Junior Open and at a British Par 3 Championship Junior Qualifier event at Nailcote Hall.
