Two ex-Cambridge United youngsters have bolstered the ranks at Soham Town Rangers.

Goalkeeper Finley Iron has been recruited to fill the void left between the posts by Josh Pope after he recently opted to return to Mildenhall Town after four seasons with the Greens.

Iron, who made one senior appearance for the U's in the EFL Trophy, has arrived at Julius Martin Lane from fellow Step 4 club Yaxley.

And the 'keeper has been joined by another product of the Cambridge academy – attacker Sam Bennett – also from Yaxley.

The forward was released by the EFL League One side last summer, and has previously had stints with the likes of Haverhill Rovers and Cambridge City.

He has also played against Soham, having turned out for neighbouring Mildenhall on loan during an Isthmian League North Division fixture in 2019 that ended 1-1.

Meanwhile, the club has also announced that five more of the previous term's squad have been retained for the upcoming campaign.

The players in question are Ally Conway, Josh James, Joe Carden, Alfie Connor and Jon Kaye, the latter of whom has been confirmed as the new club captain following Pope's exit.

Robbie Mason's side continued their pre-season programme last night with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of St Ives Town.
