Newmarket Hockey Club's junior tournament passes by successfully

Newmarket Hockey Club hosted a ‘successful’ junior hockey tournament on Sunday.

In total Newmarket had 66 youngsters in attendance across under-8, under-10 and under-13 age groups, coming up against opposition from Saffron Walden, Cambridge South and Wisbech.

Junior co-ordinator Vicky Benedikz, who plays for the club’s Ladies III and IV teams, said: “It was a very successful day thankfully.

“We had so many youngsters take part, including a couple who only joined the club last week.

“With the under-13s it was all about looking at players who we hope will be able to step up into our senior teams while for the under-8s it was good for them to experience playing matches.

“We have also made a big push at getting an under-6 team together and now offer goalkeeping coaching every couple of weeks.

“The youth section continues to grow and that is great, but we always welcome new members as well.”
