Greygoose has no intention of making wholesale alterations

NO HURRY: Dean Greygoose says that he is looking to make three or four additions to his Mildenhall Town squad.

Dean Greygoose has insisted that he is in no rush to bolster his Mildenhall Town ranks.

With pre-season friendlies now on the horizon, many of the clubs in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division have started to make signings ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Twelve months ago, there was somewhat of a revolving door at Recreation Way, with a number of players moved on and a double-figure total arriving.

However, this time around, Greygoose believes his squad is only in need of some fine tuning, particularly in the wide areas.

“I have learned a lot from last summer when we had a large number of players coming in,” he said.

“This time, I do not need many players at all, perhaps three or four at most.

“Nobody outplayed us for a whole 90 minutes last season, but we do still need that little bit of extra consistent quality.

“We need that especially on the flanks and we have three potentially new players training with us at the moment that can play in that position.

“But, the Under-16s and Under-18s have been training with us and some of them are showing some really good potential as well.

“No players will sign until I am certain about them and what they will offer us.”

In terms of outgoings, Greygoose confirmed shortly after his side’s Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup triumph over Norwich United in May, that winger Kelvin Enaro and the versatile Michael Harvey would not be returning to the club.

Now, the boss has also revealed that winger Luke Parkinson’s services will not be retained for the new season.

n Mildenhall’s first match of the new league term will pit them against rivals Ely City.

The Hall declined the invitation to begin on July 30, because they have arranged a home pre-season friendly with Romford of the Ryman League.

Instead, they will make the short trip to the Unwin Ground on Tuesday, August 2.

“It is a tough start. They will be buzzing because they gained promotion,” added Greygoose.

“It is a local derby and they are always competitive matches.

“Hopefully it will be a good game of football and we get off to a decent start.”

Meanwhile, in the League Challenge Cup, Greygoose’s men will launch their defence of the trophy with a home tie against Thetford Town on Tuesday, November 1.

n Like neighbours Mildenhall, Newmarket Town do not have a league fixture scheduled for July 30.

Instead, Kevin Grainger’s side will get underway the following Tuesday evening with the visit of last season’s runners-up Godmanchester Rovers.

The match will be the first competitive fixture to be played at the newly-named Ridgeons Stadium since all of this summer’s enhancements, which have included the installation of a 3G cork-filled pitch, new flat glass LED floodlights and renovated changing rooms.

In the League Challenge Cup, the Jockeys face a trip to First Division outfit Cornard United on the evening of November 1.

Newmarket last got their hands on the trophy back in 2014 when they overcame Felixstowe in the final.
