Guineas races still on course for the first weekend of June
The QIPCO 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas remain scheduled to take place during first weekend of June in the latest provisional plans released by the British Horseracing Authority.
Earlier this month the governing body unveiled a proposal that would have got racing restarted on May 23, but those have been scuppered by the government insisting that no professional sport will take place in the United Kingdom until at least June 1.
That has thrown question marks over initial plans to run the likes of the Craven Stakes, but the first two Classics of the season – which were originally scheduled for May 2-3 before the coronavirus pandemic. –remain on course for June 6-7.
It is still to be confirmed if the Guineas will take place at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course, although it has been revealed the traditional venue is eager to continue in its role of host.
Elsewhere, Royal Ascot will retain its dates from June 16-20, while the Derby and Oaks have been pencilled in for Saturday, July 4. The Group 1 Eclipse has therefore moved back 24 hours to the Sunday, July 5.
The exact timetable for the resumption of racing will remain subject to agreement from government and an assessment by public health officials of the risks posed by the virus at that time
