Heath record another win

Lakenheath (212) remain in the hunt for the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division Two title after Saturday’s 27-run win at Sudbury II (185) on Saturday.

The away side batted first and made steady progress against some good bowling before Dominic Palmer (20) was adjudged lbw.

Skipper Shane Leech (11) added some energy to the innings, but he also fell lbw.

That meant Adam Horrex joined Chris Baugh at the crease and they played the quickest bowlers with no further alarms.

The introduction of off spinner Ben Hyett slowed the run rate down, and when Horrex decided to attack, he was caught on the boundary for a steady 21.

Meanwhile, the left-handed Baugh increased the tempo whilst not facing Hyett, and was unfortunate to fall 15 runs short of his maiden century for his new club.

Hyett took a further four wickets and it was thanks to Liam Flack (35 not out) and Andy Leech (18) that the visitors reached 212.

Taking wickets regularly was key for Lakenheath, and Danny Rodic got them off to a perfect start by bowling opener Keelan Waldock (2).

After 15 overs Sudbury were 46-1 and in a good position to win.

However, an excellent run out by Mark Milner sparked a mini collapse as three wickets fell for 17 runs in 12 overs.

Sudbury’s number five Jon Harvey stood firm and constructed a well made 66 before the returning Rodic (5-51) had him cleaned bowled.

And as the run rate increased, Baugh helped himself to three wickets to complete the victory for Lakenheath, who are five points adrift of leaders Haverhill.

On Saturday, Lakenheath entertain third-placed Braintree (1pm).
