Newmarket Town complete signing of Max York from Histon

Max York has become Newmarket Town's first signing of the summer.

The defender arrives at the Tristel Stadium from Histon, for whom he made more than 200 appearances during four spells.

Despite playing at the back, York has forged himself the reputation of having an eye for goal in recent seasons.

He particularly excelled during the Stutes' 2018/19 Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title-winning campaign when he found the back of the net on 27 occasions.

However, following Histon's lateral league switch as part of the FA's restructure of non-league football, the skipper has opted to drop down a level to join the Jockeys.

The signing of York – who has also played for the likes of Rushden & Diamonds, Kettering Town and Biggleswade Town – comes on the back of Newmarket captain Jack Watson leaving the club.
