Community basketball club Mildenhall Jets continues rise after successful season
A community basketball club has continued its rise following the end of a successful season two years after it was founded.
Mildenhall Jets was founded in March 2023 after the idea was initially formed by head coach, Bradley Day, who has played college basketball in the United States.
There are now eight teams that all train at the Mildenhall Hub, including the U11’s, U12’s, U14’s, U15’s, U16’s and U18’s, as well as the Mildenhall Pirates, who celebrated their 10th anniversary in January.
The Jets’ U18’s side enjoyed huge success after finishing first in the U18 Youth Norfolk Basketball League, following seven wins in ten games.
The U12’s and U15’s sides came second in their respective NYBL league’s while the U11’s came third in theirs and reached the playoffs.
The other Jets teams also impressed with their hard work and togetherness, with the U16’s side set to play in the final of the Fastbreak League next month.
Lisa, chairperson of the Mildenhall Jets, said: “Mildenhall Jets Basketball Club has grown into something that we are really proud of and excited and to be a part of.
“It has happened quicker than we could have ever imagined and we are so grateful for everyone's continued support.
“The players, their families and the wider community as a whole, are a big part of the reason for the success we have had over the past couple of years, in particular this season.”
Bradley Day, Mildenhall Jets director and head coach, added: “I am ecstatic with all of our teams doing so well this season as we continue to improve in all age groups.
“We have all worked so hard this season and I am incredibly proud of how well we have gelled together.”
On Sunday, the club is holding an end of season interclub tournament to celebrate the campaign with all the players and their families.
