Newmarket Town back to winning ways in Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division with 4-3 victory against Walsham-le-Willows
Newmarket Town were back among the goals at the weekend, as they edged out high-flying Walsham-le-Willows 4-3 at the Bloorie.com Stadium.
Jacob Partridge, player-manager Michael Shinn, Jack Watson and Lewis Whitehead all found the target as the Jockeys opened up a 4-1 lead with five minutes to go.
Walsham, who had earlier equalised at 1-1, pulled two goals back to set up a tense finish, but the home side held on to bounce back to winning ways in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.
Newmarket (9th) continue their run of home games by hosting Thetford Town (15th) on Saturday (3pm), followed by eighth-placed Kirkley & Pakefield on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
Elsewhere, Ely City (18th) remain just one place above the drop zone after slipping to a 3-1 defeat away at Norwich United on Saturday.
Brady Stone’s men were looking to build on their Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup semi-final win a few days earlier, and were on level terms after Tom Williams cancelled out an early Norwich opener.
But the home side struck twice more to take all the points and leave the Robins just two points above 19th-placed Great Yarmouth Town, ahead of a potentially-crucial home clash with Hadleigh United (16th) on Saturday (3pm).
In the First Division North, Lakenheath kept up their unbeaten start to 2019 with a 2-1 victory at Ipswich Wanderers.
Aaron Turner and Kelvin Enaro got the goals for Heath (6th), who host Debenham LC on Saturday (3pm).
