Newmarket Town sign Jude Iron from Soham Town Rangers ahead of weekend trip to Gorleston

Newmarket Town manager Michael Shinn has bolstered his squad with the addition of Jude Iron.

The left-footer has joined the Jockeys from lower-league Soham Town Rangers, for whom he made 15 appearances following his arrival from Lakenheath in September 2024.

One of those outings came against his new club when he featured as a second-half substitute in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup quarter-final tie between the sides, which Newmarket won 3-1.

Prior to linking up with Soham, Iron had spells with Haverhill Rovers, Haverhill Borough, Eynesbury Rovers and West Wratting.

Iron was in line to make his Newmarket debut this evening at Sporting Bengal United, but the Isthmian League North Division encounter was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

Instead, his first outing for the club could come on Saturday when Shinn’s men head to Great Yarmouth Town Football Club to lock horns with Gorleston.

Depending on results elsewhere, a win for 21st-placed Newmarket could move them to within two points of safety.
