Newmarket Links Golf Club hosts annual Men's & Ladies Club Championships

Max Weaver and Sarah Greenall won the top prizes at the Links Golf Club’s annual Men’s & Ladies Club Championships last weekend.

For Weaver it was the first time he has been crowned the Men’s champion at the Cambridge Road-based course, while in the female section it was triumph number eight for Greenall.

Weaver, 19, plays off a plus three handicap and he shot two rounds of one over par 73 for a 146 total and a three-shot victory from Matt Hartley and Harry O’Shea (149).

He was two shots behind O’Shea after round one but established a two-shot lead with nine holes to go after a front nine of one under par 36. Weaver duly increased his advantage to three shots by the end of the round to secure the title.

Greenall, who won the event for the first time in 1998, shot rounds of 78 and 83 for a 161 total to win by one stroke from Jackie Ewing (162).

Greenall held a three-shot lead after round one, which reduced to two from Eleanor Gamble with nine holes to play.

Mistakes from the eventual champion saw Ewing take a one-shot lead with four holes to play but Greenall finished with four fours to win by one shot.
