Mildenhall Town Football Club secure deal for teams to use pitches in neighbouring Barton Mills
Plans for Mildenhall Town to revamp their youth section are starting to gather pace.
The Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division club has agreed a five-year lease to use the football pitches in the neighbouring village of Barton Mills, which will provide Mildenhall’s younger players with more facilities to train and play matches.
Chairman Bill Flynn said: “I would like to thank Robert Lewis of Barton Mills for bringing this opportunity to the club, and the footballers of the Mildenhall area.
“We have been bemoaning the lack of good outdoor facilities locally for many years so we are delighted to become custodians of the Barton Mills’ ground. It is also good to see the Barton Mills Football Club reforming as well.
“Many of us, including myself, Jon Sadler and Chris Mullender all have fond memories of playing for that club, on this very pitch.”
Meanwhile, Mildenhall’s senior side turned on the style at the weekend to beat bottom-of-the-table Whitton United 8-0.
Tanner Call did plenty of damage with a hat-trick while Kieran Twinn bagged a brace. Alfie Connor, substitute George Bugg and an own goal completed the scoring for Phil Weavers’ side.
Fifth-placed Mildenhall will host new leaders Ipswich Wanderers on Saturday (3pm), having recently lost the reverse fixture 5-0.
