Newmarket Cricket Club to strengthen ties with horse racing industry thanks to Twenty20 match

Newmarket Cricket Club will strengthen its ties with the horse racing community on Sunday in a Twenty20 contest at The Severals (1.30pm).

The match will see Newmarket’s Sunday side take on a Newmarket Racing XI made up of players from within the racing industry.

In his role as chairman of the Newmarket Trainers Federation, HQ-based trainer William Jarvis has helped to set up the fixture, while fellow handler George Scott has been in charge of getting a squad together.

The day will also feature a silent auction to help raise funds for the cricket club, with the lots including a morning on the gallops and stable tours at top yards such as William Haggas’ and John and Thady Gosden’s.

“As a club we want to form a connection with as many local industries as possible and they don’t come any bigger than racing in Newmarket,” said Newmarket captain Mark Nunn. “It’s great to have these people involved and their support is huge.

“It would be great if the community came along to watch – it should be an entertaining game. T20 cricket is always a good watch.”

A variety of refreshments will be available for those in attendance.
