The hosts took the lead early on with a converted try, but Newmarket fought back and after a flowing move Daniel Boyle touched down for his debut try in his first match of the season.

Michael Reeves’ subsequent kick shaved the post and went wide, but Newmarket were now on the scoreboard and they turned up the pressure with Daniel Johnson dotting down and Reeves adding the extras.

And the visitors continued to move through the gears in the second half, with another debutante – Connor Croxon – running in a try which Reeves duly converted.

Newmarket’s next try was scored by Simon Guenigault – converted by Reeves – before Adam Elmer became the team’s third new face to claim a debut try and complete the scoring.

Newmarket will look to continue their winning start to the new Greene King IPA Eastern Counties 1 West campaign at home to March Bears on Saturday (3pm).

* Ely Tigers started their Greene King League 3 Eastern Counties term with a 21-15 loss at West Norfolk.

After falling behind to a converted try, Ely got on the board via a Joel Scott Paul penalty.

Luke Turner added two tries – one converted – either side of the break, but the second half saw Ely pass up a number of good opportunities.

Nevertheless, they appeared to be on course for a share of the spoils until the last minute when the home team ran in a converted try.

Ely will look to bounce back on Saturday when they play host to Crusaders (3pm).

* After last weekend's defeat to St Neots, Mildenhall & Red Lodge recovered in style on Saturday, winning their Greene King Eastern Counties 2 West game at home against Cambourne Exiles 91-7.

Building on what they had practised in training, the hosts did not allow the score to go to their heads and dominated throughout.
