Batting first, the Palmer-inspired Lakenheath scored 284-5 from their 45 overs, before bowling out their Copford opponents for just 134 and securing a 150-run triumph.

Palmer and his opening partner Chris Baugh got the hosts off to the best possible start, scoring 106 and 92 runs respectively.

Captain Shane Leech also made a useful 35, while there was a late unbeaten knock of 23 from Ed Garrard.

Leech (3-23) and Baugh (2-20) then did well with the ball, while Danny Rodic also got in on the act with figures of 3-25 from 10 overs.

Tomas Helmer was the only Copford batsman to put up any significant resistance to the Lakenheath attack, scoring 54 runs before he was caught by Andy Leech off the bowling of Baugh.

Lakenheath, who are six points adrift of table-topping Haverhill, travel to eighth-placed Sudbury II on Saturday (1pm).

* In the CCA Junior League Division One, Fordham (131) lost by five wickets at Bluntisham (133-5).

Fordham openers Gav Harding (33) and Jordan Theobald (32) put on 84 for the first wicket in 20 overs.

However, once these two had gone, Fordham failed to capitalise on their good start, with George Darling’s cameo of 20 the only other significant contribution with the bat.

In reply, Bluntisham reached the target in 26.1 overs for the loss of five wickets with Martin Hancock taking 2-9.

Fordham host Sutton on Saturday (1.30pm).
