Pin Money tipster column: Midnight Gun, Mr Professor and Fantastic Fox all worth considering for William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster
Newmarket looks to have good chances of landing the traditional curtain raiser to the Flat – Saturday’s William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster – for the first time since 2021, with MIDNIGHT GUN leading the charge.
As well as the Wathnan Racing owned grey, we also have the luxury of now housing last year’s winner of the race, MR PROFESSOR, who recently moved from Lambourn to Raphael Friere’s new set-up at Freemason Lodge, former home of Sir Michael Stoute.
For his part, Midnight Gun did very well for trainer Hamed Al Jehani after he joined the Qatari operation from Ed Walker last summer and rounded off with an excellent second to Walker’s Harper’s Ferry over this weekend’s course and distance in October.
The easy-to-spot grey has not missed a beat in his work this spring on Warren Hill and elsewhere, and he looks to have a decent each-way shout, as does Mr Professor, although some rain before flagfall at 3.35pm on would aid his chances.
Also worth a look at big prices is Roger Varian’s FANTASTIC FOX, who is fit from the all-weather.
We are well represented in the opening turf race of the season, the William Hill Bet £10 Get £10 Brocklesby Stakes, in which Dylan Cunha is going for back-to-back wins with KAMAKAMELEON.
The South African trainer produced Zminiature to win the 5f curtain raiser a year ago at 16/1 and he is back for more with this flashy son of Kameko, who has already enjoyed a racecourse gallop at Chelmsford to put him right.
Also of interest on Town Moor later on is the Godolphin horse BEDOUIN PRINCE, who looks sure to take a bit of stopping on his second start in the William Hill More Top Prices Maiden Stakes.
Charlie Appleby’s colt is by his former trainee Ghaiyyath, who is carrying all before him as a sire and the three-year-old was just denied on his debut over a mile at Kempton last November.
In common with his stable-mates, Bedouin Prince has enjoyed stretching his legs around Waterhall in recent weeks and is well forward for his reappearance.
George Boughey is another trainer with his team well forward and he takes the wraps off his classy filly SOPRANO in the Listed Virgin Bet Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton on Saturday.
Oisin Murphy is to partner Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s chestnut for the first time, who is fit from some recent work around the all-weather track at Chelmsford.
A winner at Royal Ascot last year in the Sandringham Handicap, Soprano went on to be Grade 1 placed in the US and looks to have plenty going for her before she tackles something like the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at the Guineas meeting here.
Before the turf action kicks off, Varian sends a promising sort to Southwell on Friday evening in the shape of TAROOMM, who should take plenty of stopping in the Best Odds Guaranteed at BetMGM Maiden Stakes.
The son of Iffraaj was noted finishing off very well on his debut at Kempton last November to finish fourth and is expected to step up considerably on that after some promising work on the all-weather surfaces of late.
