Newmarket Cricket Club in a positive place ahead of start of 2025 season

The 2025 season is set to swing into action at Newmarket Cricket Club over the coming days.

On Saturday the men’s first team will be in friendly action against Cambourne, while this weekend marks the start of a new league campaign for the club’s Sunday side, which has won three promotions in a row.

And that is followed on Tuesday evening by the commencement of training for the women’s set-up and junior section, while the midweek team get going on Wednesday.

It is an exciting time for all connected with a club that has started to fulfil its potential since finding a permanent home in Dullingham.

Men’s first-team captain Mark Nunn said: “Since we moved to Dullingham we’ve been able to prosper and flourish as a club.

“It’s given us access to grants, we’ve been able to connect with sponsors and now we’ve actually got something to offer them.

“We’ve been able to really improve the facilities with things that are completely normal to other clubs, but it’s something we’ve never had.

“We’ve got a good ground, the membership numbers are growing year on year and we’ve been able to show that we’re here to stay.”

Having only formed last July after a first training session that featured just a handful of participants, the women’s team has grown to the point where they will play league matches this year. The juniors are also increasing in terms of numbers – and both sections are a source of great pride for the club.

“When we were at The Severals it was very disjointed with what we could do and what we could offer,” added Nunn.

“Two years after setting up the club it looked like we could be folding, but now we’re at Dullingham and we have almost 100 members.

“We can offer the juniors and the women’s team proper coaching and it’s somewhere that parents can come and watch. It’s all done properly now.

“The way the women’s section has grown is crazy. They played some friendlies last year and now they’ll be in the league, which is amazing given that it started less than a year ago.”
