Cambridge City player Ben Nolan opts to rejoin former club Mildenhall Town

Fans’ favourite Ben Nolan has agreed to rejoin Mildenhall Town.

The popular Nolan came through the Under-18s at Mildenhall, making almost 100 senior appearances for the first team before switching to higher-league Cambridge City 12 months ago.

He was the Lilywhites’ second-highest appearance-maker in the Pitching In Northern League Midlands Division last term, turning out on 35 occasions.

However, he has now agreed to return to The Riverside Stadium and will be manager Phil Weavers’ fifth addition of the off-season after the arrivals Lloyd Groves, Jon Kaye, Olly Hughes and Jarid Robson.

Weavers said: “When Benny left us last season we were both in a very different place. We were in a bit of a transition period at the time after an overhaul of the squad and he was coming off the back of a good season with a lot of interest in him.

“We had a good chat about it at the time and between us, we decided the best thing for Benny would be to move on and experience playing higher-level football.

“Fast forward 12 months and we are both in a very different position again. As a squad we are a lot more settled and I think Benny, despite a good season at a higher level, feels the time is right to come back and be a part of it.

“Benny is a special player for Mildenhall and Mildenhall are a special club for Benny. He came through the Under-18 set-up here into the first team and I think his heart was always here and probably always will be. When he made the decision he did last season he did it knowing the door will always be open here for him and that door is well and truly open. We are happy to see him back.”
