Mildenhall Red Lodge win Suffolk Plate final

Mildenhall Red Lodge Rugby Club have won their first ever piece of silverware with Saturday’s Suffolk Plate victory.

The Eastern Counties League Greene King 2 West side played host to Felixstowe, beating them convincingly by a 36-5 scoreline in the competition final.

The result also secured their entry into the quarter finals of the Suffolk Chadacre Cup on January 19, away to Woodbridge.

The game started strongly for the home side as they scored three tries in the first 20 minutes, with Shaun Thorpe scoring two and Will Levett the third – converted by Jamie Grayson.

Felixstowe played hard but were unable to breakdown Mildenhall’s defence, despite a yellow card to the home side.

Carolina Cliff Jones added a further score in the second period, again converted, before two further scores put the eventual winner out of touch.

Felixstowe scored a late try to prevent the whitewash but Mildenhall were delighted to win their first ever club trophy.
