Ely City put back-to-back wins on the board in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division

Having waited so long for a Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division win, Ely City have now chalked up back-to-back victories.

Prior to the 3-2 triumph over Haverhill Rovers, the Robins had not won a Premier Division fixture since August 6.

However, they have now followed that up with another success – this time getting the better of Brantham Athletic 2-0 (Matt Simpson and Charlie Tunnell) at the Demcom Stadium on Saturday.

Manager Brady Stone said: “I am delighted for the lads because we have had a tough run of fixtures against some good teams.

“We have only let ourselves down in a couple of those games – other than that the performances have been good. Brantham probably had the better chances but we dug deep, got our goals and when we needed Harry (Reynolds, goalkeeper), he made a couple of good saves.

“This is a very tough league. You only have to look at the Vase results at the weekend – Clacton, Stanway and Stowmarket all won away against teams from other leagues.

“Every point is crucial and we are pleased to have got back-to-back wins on the board.”

Ely will travel to an improving Walsham-le-Willows on Saturday (3pm) without right-back David Cooper, who has returned to parent club Mildenhall Town.
