Stradivarius brings up a Royal Ascot four-timer for Frankie Dettori
Frankie Dettori's love affair with Royal Ascot has continued this afternoon thanks to a memorable four-timer – all on Newmarket-based horses.
The 48-year-old opened up the third day of the meeting with a 224-1 treble thanks to victories on A'Ali (Simon Crisford), Sangarius (Sir Michael Stoute) and Star Catcher (John Gosden).
And he continued the winning run in the fourth race, retaining the Gold Cup onboard Gosden's evens money favourite Stradivarius.
Speaking after his fourth win of the afternoon, Dettori told ITV Sport: "What an amazing horse he is. He is a horse for the big occasion and I love him dearly."
Dettori, who famously won six races at Ascot in 1996, will now look to repeat that feat with the Gosden duo of Turgenev (5pm) and Questionare (5.35pm).
