Newmarket Town agree to sign former Maldon & Tiptree and Enfield midfielder Sam Coombes after Ipswich Wanderers departure

Newmarket Town have confirmed their second addition of the summer.

Last month it was revealed that the Jockeys had reached an agreement to bring in experienced attacker Emmanuel Osei, who ended the previous campaign at Ipswich Wanderers.

And Newmarket have now recruited another player that finished the 2024/25 season on Wanderers’ books.

Sam Coombes is the player in question, with the 29-year-old having come in to bolster manager Michael Shinn’s midfield ranks.

Speaking recently to Suffolk News, Shinn explained how this off-season he would be looking to bring in players with plenty of Step 4 experience and Coombes ticks that box.

He has previously turned out for Maldon & Tiptree, for whom he appeared in the FA Cup first round twice, and Enfield.

After joining Wanderers around the turn of the year, Coombes went on to feature on 15 occasions for the Suffolk side, with one of his appearances coming in Newmarket’s 1-0 victory at Humber Doucy Lane in late March.
