Heath hold on to summit

The pressure of being Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division Two leaders does not appear to be hampering Lakenheath.

In fact, the Suffolk side seem to be thriving at the summit, with Saturday’s five-wicket home win over East Bergholt seeing them hold a 13-point lead with four matches remaining.

Lakenheath were always in control of the weekend’s encounter from the moment that Danny Rodic trapped East Bergholt opener Kemsley Robb lbw for a duck.

Visiting skipper Sam Foster (65) offered up some resistance, but the hosts continued to take wickets up the other end, with Shane Leech impressing on his way to figures of 4-54 from his 15 overs.

Carl Manels (3-54) and Chris Baugh (2-28) also got in on the act as East Bergholt were dismissed for 192.

Baugh then spearheaded Lakenheath’s replay and they got off to the perfect start.

He and fellow opener Dominic Palmer put on 108 runs for the first wicket, with Palmer eventually falling for 37.

Leech (11) and Adam Horrex (13) came and went while Baugh remained, but he ended up getting out three wickets short of his century to the bowling of Robb – one of four victims for the East Bergholt bowler.

It left the combination of Ed Garrard (8 not out) and Rodic (13no) to get Lakenheath over the line with a healthy five wickets in hand.

Lakenheath will now look to tighten their grip on top spot when they travel to fifth-placed Little Bardfield Village on Saturday (1pm).

The reverse fixture earlier in the season went the way of Lakenheath by a margin of 122 runs.
