Successful open day for Newmarket URC Tennis Club
Newmarket URC Tennis Club opened up its doors to the public on Sunday, and it proved to be a day to remember.
Sixty adults and 25 juniors from ages three and upwards attended the event, which offered people the opportunity to try out the club’s grass courts.
National champion Herbie Morris, who attends St Louis Catholic Academy in Newmarket, was one of the stars on show as he first beat 13-year-old Robbie Bersan before then going on to defeat anybody that wished to take him on, including his grandmother!
Committee member Rosie Trull said: “It was a fantastic day and it proved to be very successful.
“I think a lot of people were interested because our grass courts are unique in Newmarket.
“We were really pleased to welcome along so many people to our club. A lot of people seemed pleasantly surprised because they did not know we existed.”
Trull also confirmed that the club gained 14 new members from the event, with more potentially following.
