The striker returned to Lakenheath towards the end of last season from Histon and in a recent interview with the Journal he revealed that he was aiming to score 40 goals in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North this term.

However, having found the net eight times in as many appearances, Hayden has now opted to move back up to the Premier Division with the Robins.

Explaining the reasoning behind the switch, the forward said: "Ely were one of the sides that approached me in pre-season but it came to nothing.

"I just felt I needed to step up again. I had a good season at Histon – scoring 15 goals – and I should have stayed at that level.

"It is nothing to do with Lakenheath or any fall out. I just want to play as high as I can."

The former Newmarket Town and Mildenhall Town frontman is set to make his Ely debut during Saturday's home encounter against Whitton United (3pm).
