Southwold’s Sole Bay Fish Company in Blackshore Quay given go-ahead to rebuild restaurant following devastating fire
A fish and chip shop which was devastated by massive blaze earlier this year will begin works on its restaurant from tomorrow.
The Sole Bay Fish Company in Blackshore Quay, Southwold, has been given the go-ahead from the East Suffolk Council on Wednesday to reinstate part of the building.
This follows a devastating fire in May, where a number of gas cylinders exploded and about 55 firefighters battled the flames.
Mrs T’s Fish and Chips and eight fishermen huts were also affected.
The fire stopped the restaurant from trading, leaving just the fishmonger and takeaway side of the business in operation, which opened a month after the incident.
The fish and chips shop at the harbour will be serving its customers for the last time today until further notice.
The business shared the ‘good news’ in a Facebook post yesterday.
It said: “We have planning permission to rebuild a small part of our restaurant back.
“While the works take place, the harbour take away will be closed from Monday, November 20.
“We are open this weekend as usual with Sunday being our final day.
“We would like to thank all our loyal and new customers for supporting us with our ‘al fresco‘ dining this summer and hope to see you all soon.”
The company’s second shop in Southwold’s town centre, The Little Fish & Chips shop, in East Street, will continue to be opened to customers.
