Harris & James, with stores in Southwold, Beccles and Aldeburgh, listed as one of the UK’s best ice cream vendors
Suffolk-based chocolatiers have been listed as one of the 10 best ice cream sellers in the UK.
Harris & James came in tenth in the Guardian’s list of the best-loved ice creams, after the bakewell tart gelato in its Southwold shop left writer Felicity Cloake ‘temporarily reduced to silence’.
The business prides itself in making everything from scratch, starting with coffee when their business began in Beccles two decades ago, moving to chocolate in 2015 – and more recently turning their hand to ice cream.
Richard Godfrey, a Harris & James director, said: “We are hugely passionate about our ice cream, which we make using local Suffolk milk.
“It is great to have this recognition. Our fanbase can be seen as our Southwold store regularly has queues of customers.”
Richard explained that 98 percent of what is made in the Southwold shop is manufactured by Harris & James, including chocolate, cakes, coffee and gelato.
The business first began making its own gelato because they asked an ice cream manufacturer if they could make some from Harris & James chocolate but they never did – so, characteristically, the company began creating its own.
Harris & James runs Twyfords cafe in Beccles, alongside shops in Southwold and Aldeburgh – and Norfolk towns Norwich, Cromer, Holt and Sheringham.
