The Plough, near Southwold Beccles, temporarily closes due to spiralling costs and staff shortages
A pub near Southwold and Beccles has temporarily closed in the wake of spiralling costs and staff shortages.
Adnams shut the doors at The Plough, in Wangford, on Monday (October 2).
Staff at the venue have been offered alternative employment in other Adnams properties or businesses.
A spokesperson for the Brewery said: “The pub has been temporarily closed since October 2nd, with all employees affected having been offered alternative employment in other pubs, shops and hotels operated by the brewery in Southwold itself, or in the surrounding area.
“While not a decision undertaken lightly, the business has taken the step of temporary closure in the wake of rising operating costs, staff shortages and changes in consumer habits.
“The move will enable Adnams to assess the right sustainable operating model with which to go forward in the years ahead.”
Adnams also stated that no advance bookings had been taken at the venue since June to avoid a sudden impact to customers.
It also directed customers to their other venues nearby including The White Hart in Blythburgh or The Five Bells at Wrentham.
