A brownie created by a Suffolk bakery has been crowned Britain’s Best Cake.

Two Magpies Bakery’s salted caramel and almond brownie took the top spot among a field of more than 130 products across seven categories in Britain’s Best Cake Awards at the UK Food and Drink Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The categories were brownies, classic cake, free-from cake, fruit cake, individual cake, occasion cake and traybake – with Two Magpies coming out on top in the brownie category and winning the overall award of Best Cake 2024.

The company was founded in Southwold in 2012 and now has more than 10 branches across Suffolk and Norfolk.

Steve Magnall, CEO and owner of Two Magpies, said: “We are incredibly proud of our team for creating such a decadent and delicious brownie that wowed the judges.

“Every award we win is testament to the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes at Two Magpies Bakery from the new product development team, right through to the bakers themselves.”

The winning cake stood out to the judges for its ‘exceptional flavours and textures’, with one judge highlighting the crunchiness the almonds brought to the table to ‘balance’ the brownie out.
