Two Magpies invests £80k in moving central bakery from Halesworth to Walpole

A fast-growing Suffolk chain has moved its central bakery to an 11,000 sq ft site.

Two Magpies has created the operation in Walpole, near Southwold, and has invested a further £80,000 to move its bakeries in Halesworth and Darsham to the new site.

A total of 20 members of staff will be moving locations and a further 10 new members will be recruited to man the bakery.

With nine sites across Suffolk and Norfolk, Two Magpies has grown exponentially in the last few years and its latest investment will allow it to further increase its output volumes for future growth.

Steve Magnall, Owner and CEO, said: “The new bakery will mean more space, more volume and a much greater control on output and efficiency across the production line.

“It will also reduce wasted miles as everything will be more centralised to serve our nine sites.”

“We have big plans over the next few months with an exciting new Christmas range coming soon. Two Magpies Bakery Group is definitely one to watch.”

It’s been a busy year for the chain, having opened two new Mini Magpie sites in Beccles and Wells-Next-The-Sea in the last six months on top of its existing stores in Aldeburgh, Woodbridge, Southwold, Norwich, Blakeney, Holt and Darsham.

Guy Watts, head of bakery and production at Two Magpies Bakery, said:“The whole move has been plain sailing for the most part. So far we’ve relocated our Halesworth bakery unit into the new site and Darsham will follow in due course.

“It’s a substantial operation to move a whole bakery, but the new site gives us so much more scope for upscaling production.”
