The Eel’s Foot, in East Bridge, and The Bell Inn, in Middleton, near Southwold, close doors amid increasing bills
Two pubs on the Suffolk coast closed their doors this weekend amid increasing bills.
In a post on Facebook, the landlords of The Eel’s Foot Inn, in East Bridge and The Bell Inn, in Middleton, near Southwold, said they had taken the difficult decision to shut with the cost-of-living crisis and increasing bills.
Sunday was the last day of trading for the venues under the tenants.
The Facebook post was flooded with more than 100 comments thanking the landlords for their hard work and wishing them the best in their future endeavours.
A spokesperson for Adnams said: “We’re sorry to hear that one of our tenants has closed both The Eel’s Foot, East Bridge and The Bell, Middleton.
“Both are greatly valued pubs at the heart of their community and we are therefore working with the tenant and his team to ensure we can reopen the doors as soon as possible.”
The two pubs were among the destinations for Mick Finch on his annual pub walk around the area in November, with Mick particularly thankful to staff at The Eel’s Foot for driving two of his group back to their hotels after they came across some deep water.
A swift tower was recently installed at The Eel’s Foot, which will open in May.
The Eel’s Foot has indoor and outdoor seating, six letting rooms and a Certified Location campsite nearby.
