The Eels Foot, in East Bridge, and The Middleton Bell, near Southwold, run by Adnams, to reopen today in time for Easter weekend

Two Suffolk coastal pubs which closed last weekend are reopening today in time for the Easter weekend.

The Eels Foot, in East Bridge, and The Middleton Bell, near Southwold, shut on March 17 amid the cost-of-living crisis and increasing bills.

A Facebook post announcing the closure was flooded with more than 100 comments thanking the tenants and wishing them the best for the future.

However, Adnams, the brewery which owns the freehold for the pubs, has now announced they shall reopen today.

Nick Attfield, the brewery’s hospitality director, said: “Our tenant at The Eel’s Foot, Eastbridge and The Bell, Middleton, had to cease trading nearly two weeks ago. It has been a complex process, but we’re pleased to say that Adnams will be reopening both pubs today at 6pm.

“This speedy turnaround means that we can re-employ the pub teams, who are looking forwards to welcoming back their local communities and visitors in time for Easter.

“It also puts us in the best possible position to find great new tenants who will become the next custodians of these iconic pubs - and for which we already have received lots of interest.”

The two pubs were among the destinations for Mick Finch on his annual pub walk around the area in November, with Mick particularly thankful to staff at The Eel’s Foot for driving two of his group back to their hotels after they came across some deep water.

A swift tower was recently installed at The Eel’s Foot, which will open in May.

The Eel’s Foot has indoor and outdoor seating, six letting rooms and a Certified Location campsite nearby.
