This is when Southwold Pier will relaunch under new owners Amy and Charles Barwick, of Pineapple Events

The new owners of Southwold Pier have revealed when the popular attraction is set to relaunch.

Husband and wife team Amy and Charles Barwick, co-owners of Pineapple Events Solutions, said they have been working tirelessly alongside their young family to get things ship-shape and ready to go.

The pair bought the pier on March 4 from Curious Pier Limited, part of the Gough Hotels group.

They are planning a grand opening event for the 2024 season on Good Friday, with the mayor of Southwold in attendance.

Amy Barwick said: “Charles and I are really very excited to welcome the mayor, local residents and visitors alike onto the pier this coming Friday, for the start of what will be an exciting new season and new beginning for the pier.”

The couple described their long-term ambition to make the pier an even greater draw for Southwold as a ‘quintessential’ English seaside destination.

Charles said the team were working round the clock to bring the pier back to life as part of the first phase of its development.

In addition to a refresh and deep clean, the team have cooked up a new menu for the pier’s Boardwalk Restaurant, with an emphasis on produce from suppliers in and around the town.

“We have lots of enhancements planned for the future, in a bid to place the pier firmly back on the map, as one of the regions must visit destinations for good old traditional family fun,” he added.

The 810ft pier dates back to 1900 as a landing platform for Belle steamships.

It came under the management of previous owners Gough Hotels in 2013.

The Barwicks said all the pier’s key attractions will open alongside it, including The Clockhouse Café, The Beach Fish and Chips, a new ice cream parlour selling Southwold’s own Harris and James gelato, the Boardwalk Restaurant, the shop Seaweed and Salt, Under The Pier Show and the amusement arcade.

It will be open from 8am to 5pm seven days a week from Easter.
