Stowmarket Town Awards celebrates town’s unsung heroes and inspiring individuals




A town’s unsung heroes and inspiring individuals were celebrated at an awards ceremony to highlight their contributions to the community.

The Stowmarket Town Awards took place on Friday night at the John Peel Centre, organised by Stowmarket Town Council.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the event which saw 12 awards presented to people, businesses and charities.

Mayor Terence Carter said: “It’s an amazing celebration of the community spirit in Stowmarket.”

Phoebe Hayden was awarded Sportsperson of the Year for her rowing achievements, including representing England twice, while the Pride of Stowmarket award was given to historian Darren Dordoy.

Thomas Baker, 10, made history as the youngest recipient of a Stowmarket Town Award after he was invited to race with the non-profit organisation ‘Autism in Motorsports,’ where he was recognised as an ‘exceptional young driver’ for his support of fellow drivers.

In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Young Person of the Year Award.
