Around 60 firefighters tackled huge blaze in Dagworth Lane, Haughley, near Stowmarket, as 9,000 tonnes of straw catches fire





Around 9,000 tonnes of straw has caught fire near Stowmarket last night.

Initially 10 crews and 60 firefighters tackled the blaze in Dagworth Lane, Haughley, when the fire broke out at around 10pm.

Four crews remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the firefighters are likely to be there for the rest of the day to ensure the fire dampens down.

Nearby residents, especially those living in Stowmarket and Stowupland, have been asked to keep the windows and doors shut due to a large amount of smoke blowing in that direction.

No livestock or people have been injured.
