Mid Suffolk Council: Candidates announced for by-election following resignation of Cllr David Napier

The candidates for a council’s by-election have been announced.

Following the resignation of Mid Suffolk’s Cllr David Napier, who represented Chillton (Stowmarket) ward, due to employment commitments, a by-election has been called for a new representative.

This means the Mid Suffolk Greens will have to defend a local seat for the first time since they took hold of the council back in May 2023, becoming the first Green-led local authority in the country.

The candidate nominations for the seat are:

Lorraine Dawn Baker (Green Party)

William Howman (Labour Party)

Steven John Runciman (Local Conservatives)

Voters will take to the polls on Thursday, May 2, and will be able to choose their new representative alongside voting for the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Come election day, voters will need to show photo ID to do it in person and will be able to choose from 22 acceptable forms of ID, including passports and driving licences.

Anyone who is registered to vote without a photo ID, or who no longer looks like their photo, will be able to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by Wednesday 24 April.
