Circus performer to bring sunshine to Stowmarket with sun dance at Recreation Ground
A circus performer has performed a traditional sun dance in a Suffolk town to replace the county’s wet weather with some sunshine.
Adela Pazaran, from Mexico, is bringing her Aztec heritage to the Recreation Ground in Stowmarket as part of Russell’s International Circus which opens to the public from Wednesday to Sunday.
Adela is known for her hair hanging act which sees her flying around the big top suspended only by her hair.
She said: “It is a great honour to showcase my heritage and hopefully bring brightness and sunshine to our circus during our visit here in Stowmarket.
“I performed an ancient ritual passed onto me through generations which incorporates fire in the hope of summoning some sunshine and banishing the rain and bad weather.”
The area has seen many rainy days over the past few months with notable flooding hot spots including a section of the A1120 at the roundabout near Tesco, Violet Hill Road and on the industrial estate in Needham Market near Sackers, which has been coined online ‘Lake Sackers’.
Rusty Russell, circus director and ringmaster, acknowledged the challenges of operating a traveling circus amidst unfavourable weather conditions and embraced Adela’s sun dance idea.
He said: "We have experienced a lot of bad weather lately, which makes owning and moving a traveling circus very difficult.
“When Adela mentioned the idea of doing a Sundance, we thought, why not? What have we got to lose?
“The weather can't get any worse and anything is worth a try.”
Tickets for Russell’s International Circus can be booked on www.russellscircus.co.uk or by calling the box office at 07752 218805.
The show starts at 6pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while Saturday has two showings at 3pm and 6pm and a Sunday show at 12pm.
