Suffolk County Council decision due on wastewater treatment facility to serve the Aspall brewery, near Debenham
A decision is due on plans for a new wastewater treatment facility to serve a brewery.
West Lay Limited's bid for a new non-hazardous wastewater treatment facility on land north of the Cyder House, in Aspall, near Debenham, will be discussed on Thursday next week by members of the county council's development and regulation committee.
The facility would consist of five filtration and absorption ponds and two small wind turbines.
The planning officer's report says the 7.6-hectare development would serve as the primary treatment facility for liquid waste generated by Cyder House, the operational premises of Aspall Cyder & Vinegar.
According to the report, the development is meant to address a surplus of wastewater over and above what can be treated onsite.
As it stands, surplus wastewater needs to be removed by tanker and treater at off-site facilities — as many as 1,100 such tankers were needed in 2023, some travelling as far as Basildon.
If approved, the facility would be able to accommodate enough wastewater to not only meet the current requirements but also allow for future expansion in production.
Officers have concluded the development would have no significant impacts on the environment or residential amenity and have recommended the application be approved subject to conditions.
