Suffolk Highways to launch drainage investigations at flooding hotspot on A1120 near Stowmarket Tesco

A notorious flooding spot in a Suffolk town could be resolved as drainage investigations are set to take place later this month.

Lanes of the A1120 near Tesco in Stowmarket will be closed between Monday, August 19 and Friday, August 23 while Suffolk Highways’ survey teams access and inspect the drainage systems.

The stretch of flooded road has been nicknamed ‘Tesco Lido’ by residents online as rubber ducks and an inflatable crocodile have been left at the flooded area – poking fun at the persistent issues.

The road has had drainage problems for years and the left lane was closed for more than four months following Storm Henk in January.

Suffolk Highways confirmed today that phase one of its investigations will see the northbound lane closed from August 19 to 21 between the Tesco roundabout and the Ceders Link Interchange.

Phase two will see both inside lanes closed from August 22 to 23 while the teams work close to the centre reservation of the carriageway.

Once completed, Suffolk Highways will review the results and decide the next steps to repair the drainage system which will be announced once plans have been agreed.
