Primadonna Festival returns to Food Museum in Stowmarket this weekend
A popular arts festival is set to return for a family-friendly weekend of books, writing, music and comedy.
Primadonna Festival is back at the Food Museum in Stowmarket from Friday to Sunday with a line-up of writers and artists to create ‘the world as it should be’ for one weekend.
Alice Hardaker, the festival’s new director, said: “Prepare for a stellar line-up of thinkers and dreamers, mischief makers and party lovers.
“Not only for bookworms, at Primadonna Festival there’s also every kind of entertainment. Of course, you can expect loads of conversations about books and writing workshops, but also great food, a marketplace marquee with independent makers and sellers, plus eclectic cabaret, dance, DJs and live music from tomorrow’s biggest names.
“That’s in addition to all the usual permanent attractions on offer at the Food Museum.”
Weekend tickets are £60, with concession and junior tickets priced at £40, and camping/glamping options are available too. For more information, click here.
Day tickets start from £20, however Suffolk residents with an IP14 postcode can visit the festival for free on Sunday – but they are urged to pre-book their tickets to avoid disappointment.
Some of the featured authors include Sinéad Gleeson who published her first novel, Hagstone, earlier this year, as well as music PR Jane Savidge who represented Pulp, Suede, The Verve, The Cranberries and others who will be talking about her latest book, Pulp, Britpop and How Fame Can Let You Down.
Multimillion-selling author Kate Mosse will be talking to the Feminist Book Society about her novel The Ghost Ship and will offering audience members an exclusive sneak peak at her next book, The Map of Bones.
There will also be conversations held with popular Suffolk writers including Ashley Hickson-Lovence, Katie Ward and Ellen Freeman.
The festival will include workshops for writers with conversations on how to get published, writing short stories and tips on finding your support community – plus one-to-one advice with agents and experienced publishing professionals.
Aside from the literary activities, the event’s music line up will include performances from LadyByrd, GIRLBAND!, Baby Said, Kitty Perrin and Suffolk’s own Grace Wells.
The weekend will be topped off with Anna Mudeka who has just completed her sell-out UK one-woman tour, Mama Afrika, retelling the life story of singer and civil rights activist, Dr Miriam Makeba.
There will also be a Drag Night hosted by multi-award-winning author and comedian Aida H Dee and will see rising stars from the UK drag scene take to the stage including Bi-Curious George and Hugh Mann.
The festival also offers fun activities for children and families including animal experiences, baking, crafts and Anna Fargher, author of The Umbrella Mouse, will be talking about her new book, Delta and the Lost City.
