A factory which has produced nearly two billion litres of paint and employed hundreds of people has celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The AkzoNobel site, in Needham Road, Stowmarket, is known for producing the majority of Dulux white and off-white paints and also manufacturing nearly all of the UK’s Cuprinol outdoor paints.

This past Sunday, Dulux held a family fun day at Stowmarket Football Club to provide the chance for past and present colleagues and their families to come together and share stories.

The iconic Dulux Old English Sheepdog, Madison, even made an appearance to celebrate the occasion.

Site manager Andrew Dawson said: “We’re really excited to be celebrating this huge milestone with the people that make the factory what it is.

“There’s such a family feel amongst staff, and it was great to all get together as a family with colleagues past and present to share great memories and bond over our work.”

With the factory opening in 1972, one of the longest serving employees has worked at the factory for 46 years.

Over the 50 years, the site has employed more than 500 staff and continues to be one of Dulux’s parent company AkzoNobel’s most automated factories - using state-of-the-art laser-guided vehicles to move paint around the factory.
