Stowmarket magician is crowned UK's best entertainer
A children’s entertainer and magician has been crowned the UK’s Best Entertainer 2020.
Robbie James, who lives in Stowmarket, won the title along with £20,000 after competing against 28 other entertainers from around the country, following winning the East of England Entertainer accolade earlier in the year.
Robbie, 28, who grew up in the foster care system in Norfolk and developed his love for magic as a child, has made his name performing at venues across the region and is also a member of The Magic Circle.
He said: "I absolutely cannot believe it, there were 28 national finalists and after researching them all and seeing all the inspiring talent that I was up against, I still can’t come to terms with the fact that I won,
"I just feel so honoured to have won the national award; it is an absolute dream come true. I am so over the moon."
The competition, by booking and entertainment company, Book Entertainment, was judged by votes from the public followed by a FaceTime performance and with judges viewing the contestants' showreel.
Robbie, who has been performing since he was 16, said: "All the hard work, sweat and tears over the years have finally paid off and makes the dream of being awarded UK’s Best Entertainer of 2020 so surreal,
'I am so honoured and eternally grateful for all of my supporters and fans for voting for me to make this dream a reality.”
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony, which will be held in one of London’s top hotels has been postponed until 2021.
