Large blades recovered from Stowmarket’s knife amnesty bin
Large blades, including a zombie knife, have been recovered from a town’s amnesty bin during a police campaign to tackle knife crime.
Stowmarket Police collected the blades from the bin in Ipswich Street on Monday as part of its week of action called Operation Spectre.
On social media, officers reminded the public that it is illegal to attempt to buy a knife under the age of 18 and warned of the serious consequences for those caught carrying one.
They said those found carrying a knife could face up to four years in prison and an unlimited fine and that an automatic prison sentence is handed to anyone convicted twice of carrying a knife.
They also reiterated that officers have the power to stop and search anyone they suspect may be in possession of a blade.
