Stowmarket man Andrew Seeley handed 17-month ban after getting caught drink driving

A 60-year-old Suffolk man has been handed a ban of 17 months after he was caught by officers at almost double the drink drive limit.

Andrew Seeley, of Needham Road, Stowmarket, was stopped at a garage on the A47, between Thorney and Guyhirn, after police reported a suspected drink driver crossing into Cambridgeshire and heading towards Suffolk.

Seeley was arrested and charged after failing a breath test and giving a result of 63mcg per 100ml of breath in custody which is nearly double the legal limit of 35.

On September 24, Seeley appeared before Norwich Magistrates' Court and was given a 17-month driving disqualification and a £120 fine after admitting the offence.

PC Nick Southern, a casualty reduction officer at Cambridgeshire Police, said: “There is no excuse when it comes to getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and I am glad that we were able to stop and arrest Seeley before any potential harm could be caused.

“If you have had a drink, please look at finding an alternative mode of transport as driving while intoxicated puts yourself and other road users at risk.”
