Thomas Hickmott, of Orchard Close, Elmswell, banned from driving at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court after incident in The Street, Badwell Ash
A man who admitted driving under the influence of alcohol and causing damage in a crash in a village has been banned from driving for nearly two years and fined.
Thomas Hickmott, 31, of Orchard Close, Elmswell, was sentenced at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for five offences relating to an incident in The Street, Badwell Ash, on September 22.
He had pleaded guilty to the charges at a hearing on April 4.
The court heard he drove a Ford Fiesta in Badwell Ash – which he had taken in an aggravated manner and drove without a licence or insurance – while he was over the alcohol limit.
Hickmott recorded a breath test of 66mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres – nearly double the limit of 35mg – and failed to stop after the incident.
He crashed the Fiesta into a lamppost and garden wall and failed to stop after doing so, causing damage in the process.
Hickmott was disqualified from driving for 22 months with the provision of a 22-week reduction if he completes an approved course.
He must complete 260 hours of unpaid work within the next year and was fined £199.
