Update issued on pipe replacement works in Tavern Street, Finborough Road and Recreation Road, Stowmarket
An update has been issued on the progress of ongoing roadworks along with another project set to begin in the new year.
The first phase of works by Cadent to replace 1,300m of ageing gas pipes in Stowmarket was completed on Friday along Finborough Road and engineers will resume the works in January.
It is believed that the key route in the town will be open as normal over the Christmas period and into the new year, though temporary traffic lights will be in place in Finborough Road and Onehouse Road from Monday, January 6.
Engineers will then work along Recreation Road while it is shut with an estimated completion date of Friday, February 21.
Works will also take place along Finborough Road to Danes Court Avenue with temporary traffic lights in place.
The estimated end date for these traffic lights is Monday, March 3 — however, this is awaiting confirmation and could be brought forward.
Residents in these streets will be contacted if their gas supply is affected and gas supply is usually restored on the same day it goes off.
Aside from the Cadent project, residents may have spotted another road closure in Station Road West which is part of Anglian Water’s project to fix a water leak.
However, as the issue is not deemed ‘safety critical’, Anglian Water has decided to reschedule the works for the new year instead.
Anglian Water has been approached for further information on this.
A Suffolk Highways spokesperson said the dates relating to the Cadent project may differ should Anglian Water need to address and resolve the Station Road West issues straight after Christmas.
