Creeting St Mary Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School retains 'good' Ofsted rating

The chair of governors at a primary school says she is 'delighted' after they retained their 'good' Ofsted rating.

Inspectors visited Creeting St Mary Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, which accommodates 99 pupils aged between five to 11, last month.

Inspectors found pupils show care for each other, are polite and articulate and behave well in class.

Pupils and parents reported staff deal well with the rare occasions of bullying to ensure it stops and does not reoccur.

Inspectors also noted arrangements for safeguarding are effective and one pupil told them, 'We like challenges because they are good for us'.

There were some areas for improvement, and inspectors noted learning resources provided by staff occasionally do not match the aims of the curriculum plans well enough.

They noted while staff teach pupils about different faiths and how different beliefs influence how others live their lives, staff are not as confident or precise in teaching about the diverse lifestyles in modern Britain.

In discussion with headteacher Christine Friar, inspectors agreed 'improving the deployment of resources to match the curriculum aims' and 'supporting staff to teach the protected characteristics more effectively may usefully serve as a focus' for the next inspection.

Protected characteristics apply to the 2010 Equality Act, which brought together various anti-discrimination laws relating to discrimination, harassment or victimisation, into one single act.

Jenny Hitt, chair of governors for the school, said: "We were delighted to receive confirmation that our school remains a good school.

"As a team we thoroughly enjoy working with our children in school and so we were particularly happy to see how much the inspectors enjoyed working with them too and how impressed they were with them.

She added: "As a small village Church of England Primary school where everyone knows everyone, the children are at the very heart of all that we do and the decisions we make as a team.

"It was pleasing to see that the inspectors highlighted that Governors and Leaders act in the best interest of the children and that parents are overwhelmingly supportive of the school.

"I am pleased to see all of the hard work and commitment put in by our headteacher, Mrs Christine Friar, and staff team is reflected in the Ofsted findings.

"They work extremely hard to ensure that every child at Creeting St Mary achieves their potential, fulfilling our school motto that ‘Anything is Possible’."
