Revamp plans submitted for Stowmarket’s former HSBC in Market Place

Plans have been submitted to make upgrades to a former bank which is being transformed into six town centre flats with a commercial unit.

The former HSBC bank in Market Place, Stowmarket, stood empty for years until Mid Suffolk District Council approved proposals in November to change its use from commercial to residential.

Now, further plans by FB Architectural Services, on behalf of applicant Mr Wayne, outline a series of upgrade alterations to the building — including replacing old single-glazed metal windows with modern white uPVC double-glazed windows to boost energy efficiency and ventilation.

The proposals include installing a new grey hardwood front door with frosted glass and additional timber panelling as well as adding ventilation holes to the outside walls.

Other alterations involve blocking up a second-floor outside door and narrowing an existing window opening to fit a smaller frame.

There has been no further announcement on the business which might occupy the ground-floor commercial space once the project is ready.

Mid Suffolk District Council is set to discuss the alteration plans on Thursday, May 1.
