Pupils at Cedars Park Primary School in Stowmarket create winter wonderland at Narnia-themed Christmas market
Children at a Stowmarket primary school have put on a Narnia-themed Christmas market for their parents, raising almost £200 for a hospice.
Year 6 pupils at Cedars Park Primary School, which is part of the John Milton Academy Trust, took to the stage last week, putting on a special performance adapted from C.S. Lewis’ classic The Chronicles of Narnia series, singing and dressing up as characters from the books.
They then hosted a range of fun stalls and games for their parents, along with food and refreshments.
The event raised funds for St Elizabeth Hospice, based in Ipswich.
Music teacher Ashley Cole said the children had put on a brilliant performance.
“The children have had just five hours of musical rehearsal to put this together, so have done a fantastic job,” he said.
“We always look to have a creative approach with our Year 6s and they have been coming up with so many ideas themselves.
“From the look of it, the parents and children had a wonderful time.
“We haven’t had a Christmas market at the school since Covid so it is fantastic to have been able to invite parents and the community into Cedars Park Primary once again.”
Among the Narnia-themed games were pin the tail on the Aslan, Narnia snakes and ladders, memory games, design a snowflake and a Cluedo game where parents were tasked to find festive clues across the school.
Emily Clarke, upper KS2 leader, said: “We gave them the theme of Narnia and the children just ran with it – coming up with all the ideas for their stalls and games themselves. They even came up with and prepared their costumes too.
“The children have been working on their games and stalls in design and technology lessons, so there is a real practical element to it.
“They have put such hard work into today and should be very proud of what they have achieved.
“It has been an amazing day, the children and their parents have really enjoyed it – there were smiling faces everywhere you looked.
“The market is a great way of inviting parents to the school to see what we do.”
